Known as an antique shopping destination, Chesterton is a charming small town filled with quaint shops and restaurants. The Chesterton Art Fair and European Market are popular summertime attractions. Each September, visitors meet the original Munchkins from the MGM film classic at the annual Wizard of
Oz festival.

The Duneland School Corporation has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for being one of 13 exemplary districtwide programs in the United States.


It has produced award-winning speech and debate teams, along with marching band, choral, and Japanese Language programs.


A new $76 million state-of-the-art Chesterton High School was completed in 2000 along with a $12 million renovated Chesterton Middle School opened in 2001.

With its location near the southern shores of Lake Michigan, Chesterton is home to the Indiana Dunes State Park and miles of beautiful beaches. Recreational activities are plentiful: hiking, swimming, sailing, nature exploration, horseback riding and cross-country skiing.

Residents can also enjoy the new 167-acre preserve at Chesterton’s Coffee Creek Center community – a beautiful public park with five miles of walking trails along the newly-restored Coffee Creek corridor that includes a 400-seat amphitheater, a 6,000 square foot open pavilion, and waterplaza.
